About the course
This interactive course uses guided video demonstration, interactive presentations, a series of scenarios for hands on practice and more. This is to provide you with the knowledge and comfort to begin using and troubleshooting the Sapphire IV pump.
This course will provide:
- A general overview of the pump and functions.
- How to use Clinical Care Areas.
- The hardware and software components.
- How to use the touch screen.
- How to prime the pump
- Administration set orientation
- Infusion overview and drug library
- General settings and drug calculator
- Delivering a bolus
- Common alarms and troubleshooting
- Tips for transport
This presentation is applicable for both in hospital and pre hospital practitioners.
Note:
- This course will take between 4-5 hours to complete the lesson and quiz.
- Once completed you will be provided a completion certificate for your governing body and continuing medical education (CME) credit!
- Alberta College of Paramedics members on completion, receive 15 continuing education credits

What you'll learn
- Once you've completed this course, our goal is for you to comfortably be able to perform the following with the Sapphire IV pump:
- Interpret the key features.
- Distinguish the buttons and keys, including there function and how to utilize them.
- Describe how to prime and connect an IV line (Demonstrate if taking this course with a Sapphire pump and supplies).
- Describe how to program the IV pump utilizing both the drug library, and general infusion settings.
- Interpret common alarms and there meaning, as well as how to resolve them. This includes demonstrating the required troubleshooting techniques.
Requirements
- We highly recommend to use headset for a better audio experience and a large screen, however using our mobile app, you can complete this course from anywhere. Also, it is preferred to complete this course using a sapphire pump as you work through the module.
